2018 High Holiday Services Schedule

The following High Holy Day Services will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Moscow, located at 420 East Second Street in Moscow, Idaho. 

     (1)  Rosh Hashanah, Jewish New Year — Sunday evening, Sept 9, 2018 – starting at 6:45 PM.     It will be followed by a POTLUCK snack/reception.  Please bring some sweet treats to share to begin what we hope will be a sweet New Year.  The JCP will provide refreshments, utensils and paper products.

      (2)   Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement – Tuesday evening, Sept 18, 2018 – starting at 6:45 PM.
      (3)   Yom Kippur concluding services — Wednesday, Sept 19, 2018:   The Yizkor service will start around 5:15 PM – and the other concluding services will follow, with the final blowing of the Shofar and the Havdalah ceremony occurring around 7:00 PM – followed by a POTLUCK snack/reception between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm.  Please bring some finger foods or sweet treats to begin what we hope will be a sweet New Year.  The JCP will provide refreshments, utensils and paper products.

         We have also scheduled a Rosh Hashanah DAYTIME SERVICE on Monday, Sept 10, 2018 between 10 AM and Noon, and a YOM KIPPUR DAYTIME SERVICE on Wedneday, Sept 19, 2018 between 10 AM and Noon.    Further information on the location of these DAYTIME services will be announced at our Evening Services.  
   Tickets are not required for our services.  We rely upon the dues and contributions of our members (See   https://jcpalouse.wordpress.com/about/  where you can also download the JCP DUES FORM and Questionnaire).

     Once again, we have asked Bea Wallins to provide us with Cantorial and educational assistance for our High Holy Day Services.  Dr. Wallins received her Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Jewish Hermeneutics from Emory University, has taught at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Seattle University.

Oct. 7 – Sat. Torah Class

October 7, 2017 – Saturday Torah Study Class will be between 2 pm and 4 pm.  It will be at the home of Joann Muneta:  203 South Howard Street in Moscow, Idaho.    Her house is one house north of Third Street and on the west side of the street.   If you need directions, you can call her at (208) 882-3648.   Rabbi Goldstein, who teaches Hebrew and the Hebrew Bible at Gonzaga University, will be leading our Torah Study.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CLASS is not at our regular time, but will begin at 2 PM. 

Oct 6 – Combined Shabbat-Sukkot Event

   On OCTOBER 6, 2017, the JCP combined SHABBAT AND SUKKOT CELEBRATION will be at the home of Pat Carter and Nancy Yorinks, 124 N. Polk Street, Moscow, Idaho.    They will have their Sukkah up and available for all to share.   If you can, please bring some folding chairs.  This will be a VEGETARIAN potluck – so no meat, fish or seafood, please.   Potluck will begin at 6 pm.  Services begin around 7 pm.  Rabbi Elizabeth Goldstein will lead services – with music, songs and prayers.

      (2)   Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement – Friday evening, Sept 29, 2017 – starting at 6:45 PM.

      (3)   Yom Kippur concluding services — Saturday, Sept 30, 2017:   The Yizkor service will start around 4:45 PM – and the other concluding services will follow, with the final blowing of the Shofar and the Havdalah ceremony occurring around 6:30 PM – followed by a POTLUCK snack/reception between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm.  Please bring some finger foods or sweet treats to begin what we hope will be a sweet New Year.  The JCP will provide refreshments, utensils and paper products.

         We have also scheduled a Rosh Hashanah DAYTIME SERVICE on Thursday, Sept 21, 2017 between 10 AM and Noon, and a YOM KIPPUR DAYTIME SERVICE on Saturday, Sept 30, 2017 between 10 AM and Noon.  Both of these DAYTIME services will be at the home of Lea and Scot Wherland in Pullman WA.   If you need directions, you can contact them at (509) 334-1669.

Aug 27, 2017 – Welcome Back Picnic
