In memory of Harris Bershatsky

Harris Bershatsky, our cantor for many years, passed away on August 30, 2010.  Our hearts go out to his wife Sheila, his daughter Diana, his sons Noah & Keith, and their families.  Harris led our High Holy Day services for decades.  And he conducted many JCP Community Passover Seder Dinners.  As one JCP member expressed it recently in a card to Harris:  “Every autumn as we observe the passing of the old year and the advent of the new year, the sound of your voice has given to my contemplations and prayers a sense of hope, joy, renewal and completion.  Thank you for your precious contribution to all of us.”   Harris was born on June 24, 1937.  He grew up in Brooklyn, NY.  He and his wife were married for 51 years.  Before coming to Pullman, Harris worked in New York as a stage hand.  He handled theatrical lighting for many Broadway plays and musicals.  He worked at Radio City Music Hall during the sixties.  His BA was from Brooklyn College and hisMasters Degree was from WSU.  He and Sheila came to Pullman in 1969 when Harris joined the WSU Theater Department.  He retired from WSU in 2002.  We will miss him dearly.
